Week 10 Newsletter

Room 4 Newsletter
Week 10 (April 3-7)

Reminder: Daylight Savings ends tonight. Turn your clocks back 1 hour.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)
Teachers will be giving tokens for positive behaviour over the next 2 weeks. These will give them entries into a family draw for a hamper and will also count for whanau points.

We will also be starting a Senior Team consequences system in our classrooms this week (Classroom Chances). While we will be using a variety of rewards for postive behaviour choices in the classroom we know that sometimes this is not enough.

All children will start each day on green. For more serious or persistent behaviour issues, the child will be given a warning then move to blue if they repeat the behaviour. If this continues, they will move to orange and go to the team/senior teacher for 10 minutes. They can move back to the previous colour if they show they can sustain appropriate behaviour. If the behaviour continues again they will go to red, which means they will spend the first 30 minutes of lunchtime in timeout either that day or the next.

At the beginning of next term we will be teaching a series of lessons on the school’s expectations on uniform, being ready to learn, following instructions, being fair when working with others, being polite and kind, looking after equipment and respecting the school environment.

Mathletics:
The fee for access to Mathletics all year is due by the end of the term (April 13) otherwise access for your child will be cut off until it is paid. Thanks to those who have already paid.

Lloyd Elsmore Water Safety Lesson

Water Safety on PhotoPeach

We learnt to do a pin drop because if there is danger when you are on a high boat you can do a pin drop to get into the water. Caitlin

When we got into the water we had to swim on our backs. The life jacket made it easy to swim on our backs. James and Andrea

We learnt to do back drops, which we would use off a small boat. Shiv and Felicity

We learnt how to huddle. We would use this is the deep ocean to help keep warm. We need to stay together and not let go. The smallest children go in the middle. You need to tuck your legs up and use your feet to hold up a small child. If you let go you might get lost.  Jingwen, Alex, Jack, Saadiq, Savannah and Kingston

Look for danger. Keep still and slowly move away from the danger. Felicity and Advik

We learn that in an emergency we need to keep calm. James

Always have a life jacket on when you are in a boat. Andrea

We practised moving in lines to get to the boat quickly when help comes. You have to kick sideways  so you don't kick the person in front of you. You have to hold on to the armholes of the life jacket in front of you.  If you are in the front you have to kick hard to help your line. Felicity, Ethan, Coredae, Molly, Jaden and Trinitey

If you are on a huddle and get near land you could break up into a line and kick into land together. James
