                 How to navigate with stars

⭐⭐⋆✡🌟
1.  Locate Polaris.Use either of the pointer star method to help you.
2.  Determine the angle in degrees between polaris' position and the nothern horison. The most accurate way to do this is with a quadrant or sextant, which lets you read the angle off its curved section.                                                                                              That is how to navigate with stars

Room 4 Newsletter
Term 2 Week 6 (June 7-10)

Important information this week:
The field is now damp and muddy. On the worst days it will be closed to all children. On fine days we would like the children to be able to use the field for a game. To prevent their uniform (or sports uniform) from getting muddy, the children will only be allowed to play on the field if they have a full change of clothes (not sports uniform). I suggest that they bring a change of clothes on Monday and keep this in their bag until Friday when it can go home to be washed.

Absences: In NZ students are expected to attend school daily. This is a legal requirement. Parents are asked to telephone the school office or report it on the HPS School app by 9am if their child will be absent. HPS operates an answerphone service at all times to make this process easy for families.  When leaving a message we need to know your child’s first name, last name, room number and the reason for their absence.  In the case of an absence due to medical reasons, please supply a medical certificate to the school office if your child has been absent for 3 days or longer.

Support our PTA: The PTA will be selling chocolates, Yum! Chocolates will be given out to students on Friday 9 June (Week 6). A box of 36 chocolates will go out with the eldest or only child in each family. Families will have two  weekends to sell.  Payments and unsold chocolates to be returned to school on or before Monday 19th June.  We thank our families in advance for their support :)

Chaplain
o   The  Board approve the appointment of a School Chaplain whose purpose is to listen to children who need someone to talk to other than their teacher. The Chaplain will be Police vetted and be trained as a Chaplain.
o   The Chaplain does not replace the important role of teacher or parent but enables children to offload.
o   The Chaplain reports to the Principal only if she has a concern for the safety of the child.
o   If a child chooses to use this service, they will bring home a note from the Chaplain, indicating this.

Parachutes

I was happy that my parachute landed slowly but I thought that my parachute landed very fast. That was good.

Parachutes

My parachute was made out of a plastic bag and a pencil. I don't think it was a good design because when I dropped it it went all weird and turned around and the pencil went inside the bag. I think it floated down fast for a pencil and a bag.

Making the parachute was kind of hard because of tying the stuff onto it. Sometimes it was too heavy so you have to keep changing the heavy thing that you put at the bottom.

Parachutes

I had to keep cutting the string and putting on the tape. I liked making and flying my parachute.

Parachutes

The parachutes were fun to make. I made mine out of a plastic bag, cotton and my crab pen.
