Welcome Letter Term 1 Week 1

2nd February 2017

Dear Parent

Welcome to Room 4.

My name is Judy Coker and I will be your child's class teacher for 2017 from Monday to Thursday.  Katherine Kittson will be Room 4’s teacher on Fridays. Please feel free to email me regarding queries or to make an appointment to see me.  Each week I will email parents with notes and information about the week to follow. Please let us know your current email address(es) so I can share this information with you.

On Thursday mornings I attend the Leadership meeting so will not be in the classroom until bell time. The children are asked to play outside on those mornings.

This year we will be using a class blog to communicate information and to share student work.  Please look at the blog from time to time to see your child's work.  To access the site please put the following URL into the address bar: http://2017hpsrm4.blogspot.co.nz/

Over the next week could you please ensure you name all of your child’s clothing (especially hats) and swimming togs, caps, towels.  Clothing and equipment often become misplaced and is easily returned when it is named.  Also, each child needs to bring in a box of tissues which will be collected in by the teacher and kept so students have tissues to use throughout the year.

During Term 1 and 4 students are required to wear their school hat.  Hats will be compulsory as of Tuesday 9th February (next week Tuesday).  Students who do not have a hat will need to play under the covered area outside Rooms 1-4 during break times so they are protected from the sun.  As the sun is very intense at this time of the year we encourage students to also wear sunscreen.

Our school swimming days are Wednesday and Friday. On Mondays the class will be having lessons at Lloyd Elsmore pools. All children are expected to participate in the school swimming programme. However, if your child is sick or injured please send a note or email to excuse them from that day’s swimming. All children will wear a cap in the pool. Caps are available at the school office for $6.00.

Our library day this term is Tuesday. The Year 4 children are allowed four books at a time and the Year 5s can have 5 books.  These can be kept for two weeks.

Finally, optional homework activities will begin from Week 5 onwards. Personal reading and Mathletics homework can start now. New children will receive Mathletics logins shortly. Children who were here last year use the same login.

We look forward to working with you and your child this year.

Thank you in advance for your support
